The Underneath ( Book Review )

A place where is, Ancient animals, deep swamps exist. A place where is very beautiful, quiet, still, mysterious but lethally dangerous. That is a place where the story ' The Underneath ' by Kathi Appelt played. Once you open this book, I dare say that you will not be able to stop turning the pages. The book is full of tempts which will highly attract you. So let me invite you into this book.

This book is about 'lonliness'. Each four main characters has their own loneliness but as the story goes on, they start to find their brightness in their heart. The story starts with description of abandoned calico cat. An abandoned calico cat is lured deep into the bayou by the baying of an old hound dog, Ranger. The dog’s tortured owner, Gar Face, an alcoholic, is obsessed with the hunt of an elusive 100 foot long alligator. The cat gives birth to two kittens (Sabine and Puck) underneath Gar Face’s porch. Eventually they are discovered and the family is split up. Meanwhile, in a clay jar buried deep underneath a dying tree lives Grandmother Moccasin, who has a story of her own that will come to affect the lives of our main characters. This is the main plot of this story. I won't tell you the end of this book. But what I could surely say to you is that, the end of this book will be the thing that you will love - with thrills and satisfaction. So I really recommend you to read this book.

Let me tell you why I am such a lover of this book. The thing that I really enjoyed about this book, is the insightful, poetic, sensitive sentences. Each, every sentences and words are not like boring or normal. Itself express loneliness and rhythm. This beautiful sentences made me could concentrate on this story more, stimulated my imagination and made me feel same as how the character felt in the story. For example, when the Puck( the kitten of calico cat ) separated from his mother and realized that because his mother dead he could 'never' see his mother again. He became really sad. The book describes this situation by explaining word 'never' as  [ It's a soft-sounding word , "never", but its velvety timbre can't hide its sharp edges. Especially to a small cat who has broken the rules and conjured the word in the first place ] Also, the plot of this story , itself made me enjoy it a lot. It was not like a normal book without any imagination. It is full of mysteries and fantasy.

If you are a very sensitive person who love to sympathize on others, you will love this book. I could sure. And even if you are not a person who could easily have sympathy, by the words and plots in this attractive magical book you will soon became the big fan of this book as I did. So at least once, I truly recommend you to read this book.

The Padlocked Chest

I conmmandeered on more incident. It is about the old abandoned hose at the end of the street. It has been big problem among village memebers because it scares everybody. But yesterday, it was worse. Old man's extremely miserable scream came out of the house. Every people in the village was panicked and asked me to figure it out.

Seriously, I'm scared too. Not that I am really scared about that house, I am scared that there are no information about that house except the location of it and the description of the screaming. So, the only thing that I could do was just go there and check.

I sneaked into the old abandoned house at the end of the street. I was surprised to find a small, padlocked treasure chest on a dresser in an upstairs bedroom. There was a note that said, "DO NOT OPEN. EVER!"
I also noticed a small key hanging on the wall. I tried the key in the padlock. It was a perfect fit.

Then it opened. There appeared eyes. I saw that and became totally in panic. I have never expected or predicted a situation like this. I was so scared and tried to run away. But then I suddenly clashed with little, smelly creature. It was an old man. He looked so dirty , messy and crazy. I was really sharp and tensed at that time, so I was really surprised, panicked, shocked and going crazy. More worse than before.

I screamed like a feared baby.

" AHH!!! WHAT IS TOTALLY WRONG WITH THIS HOUSE!!!!!! "
Even though it was a just soliloquy myself, and I never expected a comment from him. But he did.

" WHY YOU OPEN THE CHEST!? NOW, YOU WILL BE CURSED BY THE CHEST.. YOU ARE DEAD NOW.. YOU ARE DEAD!!!!! "

I was just a little before the syncope.  But then because of a loud 'Boom Boom' sound from the chest, I need to wake myself. I was tensed and stared at the chest with crazy fear. Then in there..... a old little big nose, weird looking little woman popped out of the chest and shouted out.

"I TOLD YOU DO NOT MAKE NOISE OR OPEN THE BED WHEN I"M SLEEPING! YOU STUPID  ALZHEIMER OLD MAN! YOU WANT TO BE BEATEN UP LIKE YESTERDAY? ARE YOU? WHY ARE YOU ALWAYS BEING LOUD BESIDE MY BED? AND WHAT THE HELL THIS IDIOT LOOKING MAN? HEY! WHAT ARE YOU? WHY YOU CAME TO MY HOME AND DISTURB MY SWEET SLEEP!! GET AWAY RIGHT NOW"

Descriptive Writing
Topic : The prized possession

Do you have any stuff that always remind you the happiness memory of your life? I do. And I'm sure that most people have one. For me the stuff is the 'card'.

This 'card', I received it when I lived China and went to international school there. It was a really small school that whole school students were less than 100. But because of this, I could be more familiar and friendly with them. I always felt very comfortable when I talked or joined with them. This card is very special for me. Because the best time of my life, is the time when I lived China and went international school, and this card make me could remember the memory there. Also this is the card which my dear lovely friends made for me and card itself holds unforgettable memory.

I received this card when I left that school. I mean the last day in there. It was the day that many feelings were combined together and made me crazy. I was upset and depressed from the morning of that day. Walking like a zombie, speak like a zombie, as I think back I am really ashamed of my appearance that day. However I tried really hard not to cry, even though I was in bad mood. But because of my dear friends and teachers, I could do nothing but crying.

They made a surprise party only for me. And that was really a impressive thing to me. I've never had a party only for me except the birthday party. I was so happy at that time that there were lots of people who love me , there were lots of people who were very sad about me to leave. But on the other hand, I felt like my heart was really breaking that I have to part from these people. Before that day I never believed that there is a feeling like 'Heartbreaking'. I thought that it was just a word, and people who are saying that they felt heartbreaking are all stupid and too sensitive. But it happened to me! It was really shocking thing to me. Finally I cried out really loud for pretty long time. Everybody came to me and soothed me. I felt shy about myself , crying like a baby. Happiness, sadness and shyness all mixed up together at that time and I was really confusing. But the one clear thought was that " I love my friends and teachers here".

I think I am very lucky girl. There are many people who never meet a friend who do really love them and take care them like a family, but I met tons of people who were like that. If I do have more luck , I hope that the luck could make me meet a true friend like them again.
Narrative Essay Writing
Topic : About my story ( sth that is instructive)

Imagine that you are lying on a bed waiting for the operation. Isn't it frustrating? I had just same experience an it made me going crazy obviously. I had my appendix removed because I had inflammation there. It was a memory that I don't want to remind but at least I learned a lesson from this experience, I want to talk about this story today.

It was 2007, I was 11 years old. I was playing with my younger sister and her friends. But suddenly, I felt very uncomfortable. I felt something like a sword was stabbing my stomach. So I just stopped everything and ran home. My parents earned a livelihood together, so there was nobody who could take care of me in the home. So I just eat a medicine that was in the kitchen and slept until my parents came. When I woke up, my parents were home and I felt worse than before. So we went to hospital right ahead. The hospital said I had appendix inflammation so I need operation. When I heard this, I was too surprised and shocked , almost going crazy. But my mom grabbed me and helped me to calm down so I felt much better.

The very next day's afternoon, I operated. It was very strange when I got shot for anesthesia. I went sleep exactly 3 seconds later. Whatsoever, after the surgical operation, I went out of the room. Exactly same as I went in, lying on the bed crying. It was really hurt. Too hurt that I just lost my temper and yelled to others and also crying. But my family never left me. They stayed beside me and nursed me. Even after that day, I kept being fretful for days. I couldn't eat, I couldn't move, I couldn't do anything. I urgently need help and it was only family who helped me quietly, accepting my frets.

Every time, when I remember this story, I feel very sorry and thankful to my family.  It was family who stayed beside me when I was sick.  I'm sure that for the future it will be the family who will stay beside me forever. Now can you guess what I learned from here? I learned how precious, how important family is. And I will always try my hard to be well on my precious family.

Berkas:Korea-Samcheok-Beach-01.jpg

Imagine a deep blue sea, swelling waves, beautiful sunny beach with clean air and green trees. The place where I was born, is just like what I've mentioned. Close to my hometown are beaches, and forests. It is also located in Gangwon-Do like our camp, it's called 'Samcheok'. Our hometown has many things to tourist. As I mentioned there are many beautiful environments. Especially the beach, because my city is just beside the sea. My hometown is  also famous for limestone.  There are lots of caves and topography related to limestone such as  doline or terra rossa. Because  there are many beaches and there are lots of unique topographies, many people visit our city in summer.

However, I moved to Seoul now which is very sad thing for me. But life in Seoul is still funny to with my friends. After I moved to Seoul there was some changes with me. First I could find my dreams. When I lived in Samcheok which is a country, education environment was very poor so I was kind of timid about deciding my future. I don't know what to do and how to do. But after I come to Seoul I could learn a far more things with a much better education and much better support to my future. My dream is to become a 'Teacher' now. I want to teach others what I have learned and I especially want to teach in a place where I was born.

The second change was about my personality. When I lived in country, the Samcheok, I was timid about myself, but I was kind of rambunctious and selfish. There wasn't many children of my age and very friendly with me, and my parents are busy doing their work. I blamed others a lot when if they do sth that I don't like, I fight with someone a lot before. But now, I can find many many many friends in Seoul, also I became older, and my mama dosen't go to work anymore (lol), I became less rambunctious and I like to join with others with a very nice way haha :) Problem is that I didn't fix my selfishness yet, so I think of myself more than others a lot :( but I am trying my best to fix it. If you want to be my friend please remind that. lol .

THANK YA
